SERIES – Forty years after their appearance on the Japanese small screen, Tam, Alex and Sylia make their return, this time in . And in the flesh. This Monday, November 11, the three sisters of the famous manga Cat’s Eyes arrive on TF1 in a “live action” version with actresses Camille Lou, Constance Labbé and Claire Romain.

The history of the series dates back to the origins of the fearsome thieves. Their father, a famous art connoisseur in the capital, tragically died in a fire in his gallery twelve years ago. Really ? Tam is sure not. He was murdered to take away the priceless paintings he had in his possession.

United as ever, the Chamade sisters will try to seize it and get their hands on the killer. Yes, but before that, it’s… Mojito. In this “modern” adaptation, the masked avengers are trendy girls: they go to the bar, live in Belleville, send the bad guys (and the police) away and, above all, have swapped their high heels for sneakers. This Cat’s Eyes has little to do with the old one. Except for one detail: the credits.

The credits sung by Anne Sila

If the images which appear in pink and blue are new, the music resembles the original like two drops of water. “ Girls today. Children of the form. We love to laugh and dance. » Does that remind you of anything? “ Three lively panthers. Which in a flash. They know how to jump without a sound. » That too?

Although a little shortened for the occasion, the words composed at the time by Alexandre Révérend have not changed. They are performed, here, by Anne Sila, whom TF1 viewers already know. The latter was discovered in fourth season of The Voice.

« We tried to wink, particularly musically », Explains the director of the series Alexandre Laurent, in the production notes. The showrunner of Female fighters a you Charity Bazaar (other TF1 hits) says he took particular care here with the soundtrack of Cat’s Eyes : « While remaining very contemporary, we colored the series with iconic tracks from the 80s that we still listen to today. »

For example, he refers to Girls Just Want to Have Fun in the first episode. “ There are also funk, electro, rock toneshe adds. And even Édith Piaf who necessarily represents . » Anime purists will have to be content with this undeniable positive aspect of the series.

A disappointing adaptation

Even if there are certain other positive points, including the fact that the homosexuality of one of the three is not a subject (at least, until the last episode that we were able to watch), the series created by Michel Catz disappoints. The dialogues sound false and are frankly not very funny, unlike the humor (sometimes a little crude, of course) of Tsukasa Hōjō's cartoon.

The financial resources allocated to the series (25 million euros budget) are nevertheless pharaonic. And even if the settings look like postcards, thanks to the nocturnal escapades on the Eiffel Tower, at the Palace of or in the middle of the Louvre, there is still a lack of real waterfalls worthy of the name.

The City of Lights also played a determining role in Tsukasa Hōjō's decision to let Alexandre Laurent bring his heroines back to life. He saw the first episodes and seems won over. In any case, more than us.
