Weather report. Snow showers expected Tuesday in the Alps

Warmed by the exceptionally mild temperatures observed in recent days, the slopes of the Alpine massifs remain desperately green for the moment. But it could be that they finally come to wear white quickly.

Indeed, a thick layer of low and persistent gray, as well as a clear cooling of temperatures, will settle in on Monday evening over a large western half of the Alps and will lower the rain/snow limit to 1,500 meters above sea level, which until then stagnated 300 meters higher.

Consequently, small snow showers could appear during the day on Tuesday “between 1,200 and 1,400 meters above sea level”, underlines Météo in its forecast bulletin dedicated to the Alps.

5 to 10 cm of snow in Maurienne

These showers will be “a little more frequent over a good eastern half of Savoie. Since the day before, the accumulation of snow has not exceeded 1 to 3 cm above 1,800 meters, except near Italy, in Haute-Maurienne and in Sud-Maurienne, where we could have 5 to 10 cm of snow,” specifies the meteorological institute.

But the snowy episode is not expected to last. The sun will return to most of the massifs on Wednesday, accompanied by a rise in temperatures. Mild weather will be particularly important at the end of the week, Friday and Saturday, even if we will have to deal in the morning with “gray weather, very locally stubborn” in the lower Arve valley and the north of the Isère department. .
