It was 106 years ago, in 1918. At the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, from the mud of Flanders to the Swiss border, the bugles sounded the notes of “ceasefire”. The pride of victory is mixed with the procession of shadows of those “perished in the earth”, accompanied by those who mourn them. It is these sacrifices that we commemorate today, to which have been added since 2012 that of all the “died for ”.

« Honorary their memory is listening to what they still tell us today. They leave us with a duty of gratitude, lucidity and ehope ».

« The duty of gratitude, it is quite simply souvenir of the sacrifice of these young men, inhabited by promises of life, who agreed to give everything so that France remains. The trials they went through are unimaginable ».

A 20-year armistice

« The duty of lucidityis not to forget that 21 years after the guns had fallen silent, we had to take up arms again in 1939.”

“The conjunction of cowardice andblindly transformed the “der des der” into a “twenty year armistice” to use the words of the Marshal Foch ».

Return of the war in Europe…

The ceremony had a specific aspect, given the war that has resumed in Europe, in Ukraine:

“At a time when traged of war has made its comeback, at a time when certain powers are calling into question all foundations of order and international law, those of 14 and those of all wars whisper to us to continue to defend peace.”

The 80th anniversary year, also

A word was said about the year 2024, corresponding to the 80th anniversary of the liberation from the Second World War in France:

In this year of the 80th anniversary of the Liberation, let us remember the soldiers of the Kieffer commando who set foot on the beaches of on June 6, 1944; let us remember the soldiers of Lattre's 1st army who landed in Provence; those of General Leclerc's 2nd armored division who, from the desert, at Kouffra, came back to to liberate it and fulfill their oath; let us remember the heroes of the internal resistance, but also the ordeal of those forcibly incorporated from Alsace-.
