The Nitto ATP Finals are off to a good start for the American Taylor Fritz, number 5 in the world ranking.
In his debut match at the Inalpi Arena in Turin he defeated the Russian Daniil Medvedev (number 4 ATP): 6-4, 6-3 the final score.
In the first set Fritz was very regular from the baseline and took advantage of the numerous errors of his opponent, who made three double faults in a row in the decisive game. Medvedev let off steam during the break, throwing his racket against the court and destroying it.
In the second set the Russian immediately wasted four break points. The sixth game was decisive, with yet another backhand error by Medvedev which allowed Fritz to take the lead 4-2. At that point a mini show began by the Russian who threw his racket against the backboards and received a ‘penalty point’. The drama continued throughout the game, which Fritz won easily. The American therefore maintained his concentration and finished the match without problems.
