Doctor Pedro Luis Ripoll of the ‘Ripoll y De Prado Sport Clinic Centro Médico de Excelencia FIFA’ provides an analysis of the serious injury sustained by Brazilian national team player and Real Madrid defender, Eder Militao, to his right knee this past Saturday.
Ripoll describes the injury as “serious,” noting that it involves an anterior cruciate ligament tear along with damage to both menisci. He also raises concerns about the high percentage of footballers, ranging from 12% to 15%, who may suffer repeated anterior cruciate ligament injuries in both knees, similar to Militao’s case.
“There are factors related to each individual’s joint structure and their morphotype that contribute to this high rate of coinciding injuries,” the doctor explains.
Ripoll states that the meniscal injuries, which will require suturing, will extend the recovery time for the Real Madrid player. However, he emphasizes that the prognosis is “optimistic,” as modern medical science provides more than acceptable solutions for these types of injuries.
