On November 11, the town of Saint-Jory is preparing to pay solemn tribute to its children who fell for France. This year, in addition to the traditional tribute to those who died for the homeland, the ceremony will be marked by a new historic step: the unveiling of a commemorative plaque in honor of local resistance fighters Albor and Cambus, two figures of the Resistance. A tribute in two stages: in accordance with the deliberation of the municipal council, the Place de la Résistance will now bear the name “Albor-Cambus” to honor the memory of these two figures of the Resistance of Saint-Jory.
The ceremony will therefore take place in two parts: first on the new Place de la Résistance, then at the war memorial, Place de la République. From 11:15 a.m., the ceremony will begin at the Place de la Résistance Albor-Cambus. The mayor, Victor Denouvion, will speak before unveiling the plaque in tribute to Albor and Cambus. At 12 p.m., the procession will meet in front of the war memorial on Place de la République. The municipality will offer a cocktail at 12:30 p.m. in the municipal council room to close the day. An opportunity to bring together the Saint-Joryans, all invited, around common memory. For this ceremony, the municipality decided to involve its young elected officials from the municipal youth council (CMJ).
Young people associated with the commemoration
The CMJ met on Wednesday October 23, under the patronage of Christelle Costes-Robles, elected to the youth, who was keen to associate the CMJ on a commemorative occasion like this: “It was important for the municipality to associate youth and the CMJ with ceremonies like that of November 11, where young people are often not present enough. They quickly became interested in the ceremony and took pleasure in looking for texts that resonated with them. We are happy. to be able to get them involved.” They will say a few words to recall the importance of this heritage of freedom and courage after the unveiling of the plaque at Place de la Résistance and they will take the floor to read a text in tribute to the missing soldiers on Place de la République. .
The mayor and Thierry Brugère, deputy mayor for veterans, will meet you on November 11 to pay tribute to those who have shaped our history and our future.
