GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KJCT) – Today was cloudy on the western slope, but the sunshine returns for the weekend, along with warmer temperatures.
Weather Setup
Cloudy skies have been dominating the sky today along with some rain and snow in a few spots in the higher elevations. Out toward the Continental Divide and Front Range of Colorado, inches and even feet of snow continue to fall. The reason for this is the wind pattern is moving moisture into the area and uplift is provided by upslope flow. This results in precipitation, and it is falling as snow since it is cold enough. That will continue through the overnight before starting to see clearing Saturday morning. Until then, travel along I-70 on the Continental Divide and toward and past Denver will be dangerous. Some snow will try to make its way into some of our areas on the western slope. The higher elevations could see some snowfall during the overnight and the valley has a slight chance as well, although the higher elevations will be more favored. Cloudy skies with rain or snow on the western slope will turn to mostly sunny skies in the afternoon. The temperature will be warmer Saturday as well and continue the mostly sunny skies and warmer temperatures into Sunday. This is all because of an area of high pressure that will continue to move into our region.
