Ahead of Saturday’s London derby, the Crystal Palace manager has just three central midfield options at his disposal. Regulars Adam Wharton and Jefferson Lerma are sidelined due to injury, while Will Hughes is suspended following his fifth yellow card of the season.

Devenny, who has played senior football in Scotland, joins Japanese international Daichi Kamada and Cheick Doucoure as natural options to feature in the pivot. However, Kamada will likely be required to fill the void of Eddie Nketiah on the left, with some fitness concerns remaining over Doucoure.

Speaking on Friday, Glasner revealed that he is unsure whether Doucoure will be able to play 90 minutes against Fulham after amassing less than three hours of football in 348 days.

“We will see,” Glasner said. “It’s important now to start with players at their top fitness level.

“We can’t risk an injury with the responsibility we have to take because of the very tight schedule after the international break.

“It’s a discussion we’ve been having throughout the week. Let’s see what I will decide.”

Turning towards potential solutions, Glasner could be forced to field an atypical midfield on Saturday with Northern Ireland Under-21 International Devenny among his thoughts.

“He was with us in the USA and he was excellent against Wolves. He does well with our U21s and he’s now training with us.

“We were looking for a midfielder because we have several players missing there.

“He’s a very good player. Technically, he can solve situations with one or two touches. He’s physically in a very good shape. Let’s see.”
