Tolu Arokodare is doing particularly well at KRC Genk. However, it almost seemed a certainty that he would leave last summer.
The supporters of KRC Genk would have had no problem if Tolu Arokodare had left last summer. Even at the start of the season, the striker was not praised, but he is now the top scorer in the Jupiler Pro League.
“There was one supporter who sent me insulting messages on Instagram after every match. That was about anything and everything. After Sunday he told me that he had completely misjudged me,” Tolu tells Het Laatste Nieuws.
The man deleted all his previous comments and apologized to the striker. That prompted Tolu to make the statement he made last week. “If I didn’t have eight goals to my name, some would have said that I was playing the victim with that statement. You know what people are like.”
Thorsten Fink is very important to Tolu. “The first thing Fink did was take the bad air out of the team. He did a great job. I swear, we’re just like friends. You have to see the coach with his staff.”
Fink played a very important role in the fact that Tolu remained in Belgium. However, there were quite a few offers, especially from Turkey. And financially that would have been a very nice deal too.
“Fink didn’t think I was a player for Turkey. “Stay with me for one year and you’ll be in the Premier League,” he said. Something like that gives a lot of confidence. I must trust the process. Today I am very happy that I stayed.”
