Saint Lucia, today, Friday in Rabat, renewed its “support for territorial integrity and Morocco’s sovereignty over its entire territory, including the Sahara region,” stressing its “support for the Moroccan plan for autonomy as the only reliable, serious and realistic solution” for the final settlement of the regional dispute over the Moroccan Sahara.
This position was expressed in the joint statement signed following discussions by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Residing Abroad, Nasser Bourita, with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Trade, Civil Aviation and the Community of Saint Lucia, Alpha Romanos Baptiste.
In this regard, Saint Lucia praised the growing international consensus and the dynamism that King Mohammed VI brings to the autonomy plan and Morocco’s sovereignty over its Sahara, as its position falls within this framework.
In this joint statement, Alpha Romanos Baptiste also expressed his welcome to the efforts of the United Nations as the exclusive framework for reaching a realistic, practical and sustainable solution to this regional conflict.
Finally, Saint Lucia, as a member of the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States, noted the opening of an embassy of the Organization in Rabat (October 18, 2018) and a Consulate General in Dakhla (March 31, 2022), which provides a qualitative opportunity to further enhance exchanges between the Kingdom of Morocco and the six Eastern Caribbean countries.
