Reviews are in for Paul Mescal’s Gladitor II as Irish stars take to the red carpet for premiere

Rosanna Davison, Blathnaid Treacy and Greg O’Shea were among those leading the way on the red carpet for the Irish premiere of Gladiator II on Thursday night.

The highly-anticipated Ridley Scott sequel stars Maynooth native Paul Mescal as the leading man, Lucius.

The premiere took place at the Lighthouse Cinema in Smithfield, only hours after a Paul Mescal lookalikes competition was held elsewhere in the capital.

Photos and videos circulating online show the Normal People star taken aback as he walks onto the red carpet and is greeted by his beaming family.

The blockbuster hits cinemas next Friday (November 15) with a host of well-known Irish faces getting the first look at the film and the reviews have been amazing.

Former Miss World Rosanna Davison donned a beautiful little black dress which was complete with white bows down one side. Rosanna accessorized with a black bow and black heels and lauded the movie as ‘EXCELLENT.’

Fellow Dancing with the Stars contestant Laura Fox was also in attendance and confirmed ‘The Paul Mescal show is absolutely class.’

She said: ‘It would make you tear up watching Paul Mescal. He is absolutely unreal start to finish. He’s never off the screen.

‘He’s just there acting away with Denzel Washington and Pedro Pascal?! And it fits! You’re in for a treat.’

Greg O’Shea also expressed his pride as he noted it was ‘so cool to see an Irish person front and centre in a major film.’

The Love Island alum added: ‘I can confirm this film is top class.

‘It has everything from the star-studded cast, classic fight scenes, deep history, beautiful scenery etc.

‘I’m gonna have to go back and watch the first one asap [as soon as possible].’

Limerick model Shauna Lindsay and presenter Maia Dunphy also shared rave reviews as did fellow TV presenter Baz Ashmawy.

‘It was Eeeeepic! Me and the boys had a ball,’ he wrote, ‘Everyone there was so proud to see a fellow Irish person, out in the world doing so well. Was a really nice atmosphere.

‘GO WATCH IT NEXT WEEK!’

Ireland AM presenter Elaine Crowley said: ‘I can hear the #oscar calling…’ while RTÉ 2FM broadcaster Blathnaid Treacy commended: ‘Congratulations on your well deserved superstadom.’
