A woman was hit by a car this Wednesday late afternoon on the Route Nationale (D 938) in Coutiches. When the Orchies firefighters arrived on the scene around 5:15 p.m., night was falling and the victim was lying unconscious on the right edge of the road (in the Flines-Orchies direction), near the ATM, almost opposite the church.
A volunteer firefighter from Flines-lez-Râches stopped to begin resuscitation but neither his efforts nor those of his colleagues from Orchies and SMUR from Lille were able to save the victim. The pedestrian, aged 38, living in Orchies and mother of two children, was declared dead around an hour later.
Very busy axis
An investigation was opened by the Orchies gendarmes, present in large numbers to regulate traffic. They collected testimonies on site and hearing from the motorist involved in the accident should allow them to determine the exact circumstances of the tragedy.
