“The fire was quickly brought under control to prevent it from spreading, but it took a long time to overcome it”explains the deputy mayor of Petite-Synthe, Johan Bodart.

No one was injured, but the 1,800 m² warehouse was completely destroyed. Fourteen employees who manufacture “canned fresh products such as maroilles chicken, potjevleesh, soups, pâtés and other regional products are technically unemployed”adds the deputy mayor.

Firefighters from Bergues, Fort-Mardyck, Coudekerque-Branche, Dunkerque and Gravelines intervened from 1:30 a.m. until daybreak. An SNCF line was cut in both directions, on the Calais – Dunkirk axis as a precautionary measure. Traffic was restored at 7:00 a.m.

The firefighters were called at 1:30 a.m. By 2:30 a.m., three-quarters of the produce storage building was on fire. Three lances were used as well as a fourth, a cannon lance on a lifting arm, indicates the communication from SDIS 59.

The services of the urban community and the city of Dunkirk are already hard at work to set up a “structure supporting the fourteen employees on technical unemployment”specifies Johan Bodart.
