the essential
The workshop garage for the future metro line C, where all the trains will be parked every evening and where they will be washed and maintained, is under construction in the Sept-Deniers district.
It is in these gigantic buildings, a total of 20,000 m2 of floor space, that the future trains of line C of the Toulouse metro will be pampered.
The 12 hectare land where their construction began is located between the Ginestous wastewater treatment plant to the east, the leisure complex (basketball, 5-a-side football, climbing) on rue de l'Égalité to the north, the Cassin recycling company to the west or the expressway to Blagnac and Stade Toulousain to the south.
Up to 80 workers and companions per day
On site, three large cranes and up to 80 workers and companions per day have been working since the beginning of 2024 on the construction of these monumental buildings. On the ground, corridors of gray sand are drawn: by the end of 2025 they will accommodate the rails which will allow the metro trains to park every night.
Remember that metro line C will be put into service at the end of 2028. But from 2027, the first trains built by Alstom will be welcomed on this site. For example, tests on a 500 m straight line will be carried out.
“A 470 m tunnel under the expressway which leads to Blagnac and Colomiers (A621) is currently being built. The trains will leave line C at this location to reach the maintenance buildings,” explains Julien Isnard, manager at Tisséo Engineering.
The structural work completed in summer 2025
In summer 2025, the structural work of the three main buildings will be completed. The installation of equipment, such as a subway washing machine, a wheel machining tower or even overhead cranes can then begin.
The project includes the planting of 400 trees and the establishment of a one-hectare photovoltaic farm.
“A 50 million euro project, carried out by many local companies”
“It is a 50 million euro project, which is being carried out by many local companies, and which boosts the economy and employment,” underlined Jean-Michel Lattes, president of Tisséo Collectivités and Tisséo Ingénierie.
The district's mayor, Olivier Arsac, was delighted with the new dynamic at work in Ginestous, a neighborhood that is sometimes criticized. “The metro is an ecological project, no offense to the Toulouse left, which is against the plane, the LGV, against the metro,” he said.
“At the peak of our structural production capacity”
“We are currently at the peak of our production capacity in structural work, on heterogeneous soil and construction by piles, with 80 people per day on the site”, underlined Olivier Truc, general manager of Socotrap, a general building company which has 150 employees in the region, representing the group of companies working on the site.
34 trains for line C in 2028, to transport 200,000 passengers per day
The 34 trainsets of the future line C of the Toulouse metro, with a length of 36 m (26 m for line B and 52 m for line A), will be able to accommodate up to 290 passengers in their initial configuration, which will allow to transport 200,000 travelers per day. With the addition of a 12-meter module and the increase in the number of trains, up to 54 at most, line C will potentially be able to accommodate 600,000 passengers per day, indicates Tisséo. Line C, currently under construction and which will connect Labège and Colomiers over 27 km, will be put into service at the end of 2028.
