The Grand Final of the 2024 League of Legends World Championship has created history, ending as the most popular match in esports history. The moment came during the final game of the best-of-five series between Bilibili Gaming and T1, with the series touching 6.94M Peak Viewers. That also made it just the second esports tournament to pass the 6M PV mark.
Fans witnessed some intense and hard-fought action in the first four games, with defending champion T1 having to come back twice to take the series to the decider. The South Korean side had mid-laner Faker to thank for keeping its dream alive, preventing the Chinese side from clinching its first world title.

At the end of it all, T1 showed its world’s pedigree once again to clinch its fifth crown with a 3:2 scoreline, the same number that Faker has now won. It also repeated its feat of winning back-to-back championships almost a decade after it first did under the aegis of SK Telecom T1.
A slew of other records were also broken during this lengthy affair. Vietnamese broke its esports record with 1.11M PV. It became the third Southeast Asian language to cross with 1M peak concurrent viewers in professional video gaming after Indonesian and Tagalog and the tenth language overall to cross this mark.

English almost peaked at 2M online spectatorstopping the mark it surpassed at the 2023 iteration by around 8.37%. There was also a new esports record set for CHZZK, which did 297K PV to cross the previous mark set at the LCK Spring 2024. It also hit a new platform overall peak of 445.2K PVled by a massive Korean crowd that cheered on its team to go and clinch that record-extending fifth world title.

Moving to Twitch chat briefly, Faker was by far the most popular player from r the Grand Final, getting 23.6K mentions for his plays and legacy-extending win and leading to the word GOAT also getting a bit over 4.4K mentions. The top emote used was also connected to T1, with riotllaT1 getting almost twice as many mentions as any other emote at a bit over 60K mentions.
The latest edition of the LoL Worlds series continued to push the boundaries of what is possible for esports events when it comes to viewership.
