In a ballot by indirect universal suffrage, the Americans elect 538 electors, who will designate the future tenant of the White House. To win, you need at least 270 electors. The campaign was close to the end, with polls indecisive until the final moments of the presidential race.

Election night begins on the East Coast of the United States, with the first polling stations closing at 6 p.m. (local time, midnight French time) in states like Indiana and Kentucky.
