Ahead of the big clash between AC Milan and Real Madrid, Alvaro Morata spoke to the media and shared his thoughts on the task at hand, facing his former team.

Morata spent several years at Real Madrid, having joined their academy from rivals Atletico Madrid at a relatively young age, and he made 95 appearances for the first team. In those games, he found the back of the net 59 times and assisted an additional 39 goals.

Speaking to Sky Italia (via MilanNews) ahead of tonight’s clash between Milan and Real Madrid, Morata was asked about the special game and what is needed from the Rossoneri, as well as Rafael Leao. He also sent a message to those affected by the heavy flooding in Spain recently.

On the Valencia disaster…

is the least important thing now. I know people who are there and I want to send a huge hug to everyone who is suffering from this situation. But I’m very proud of how Spaniards are reacting, of my teammates who are helping the people there. We too are helping from a distance as we can. I also hope that the national team can play in Valencia soon.”

On the special match in Madrid…

“We need to arrive here with personality, knowing that we are Milan and that we also have a history behind us. Above all, you can win or lose matches but it is the performance that we need: to realize that we can beat important teams and we can do it again tonight. More than for the people or other teams, we have to do it for ourselves. We need to make a great effort.”

On Rafael Leao…

“He doesn’t have to consecrate himself, he’s a top-level player. I hope it’s his first big night here: he was born for these games, for these competitions. Where do I have to sign for it to be Leao’s night? If it’s his night, it will also be Milan’s night.”

Morata starts up front for Milan and after a subpar performance against Monzaall things considered, the fans want to see a more clinical No.7 inside the box. It remains to be seen if he can find the back of the net against his former side.
