For months there has been no getting around a certain chocolate: the Dubai chocolate, which is filled with pistachio cream and the Turkish dessert Kadayif. The hype and demand for the product became so great that even the Swiss chocolate giant Lindt could no longer ignore it. The company announced that it would sell its own creation from November 9th – but limited to 1000 pieces and only in Germany. After a brief period of excitement, the company is now rowing back and bringing the pistachio chocolate to Switzerland.
On Monday, November 4th, a media spokesman confirmed when asked for 20 minutes: “A launch in Switzerland is not currently planned.” The outrage was palpable in the community. «Do you have to understand that? A Swiss company, but that doesn’t exist in Switzerland,” “Isn’t Lindt from Switzerland? Why is it being tried in Germany!» and “Wait a minute, the factory’s headquarters are here on Lake Zurich. Why shouldn’t this be sold in Switzerland?” read the comments.
Lindt probably asked himself that too and changed his plans. A media spokesman reports: “We have now received information from the Swiss market that Dubai chocolate will also be available in Switzerland in very limited quantities in selected Lindt stores from mid-November.”
As in Germany, the price will be steep here too: “The 150g bar will be available for 14.95 francs.” For comparison – 100 grams of the milk chocolate that Lindt uses for production is offered in the company’s online shop for 2.95 francs. According to the German Instagram channel, the Dubai chocolate is made 100 percent by hand. “What’s special is the texture: delicately melting Lindt milk chocolate encases an incomparable filling with a particularly high proportion of the finest pistachio pulp (24 percent), crunchy Kadayif and velvety tahini,” Lindt & Sprüngli Germany praises the product in its press portal.
It is currently not known in which shops the panels will be offered for sale and how many will be sold, but will soon be communicated on lindt.ch and the social media channels of Lindt & Sprüngli Switzerland.
