Jean-Yves Prigent once again in the sights of justice. According to Le Parisien, the emblematic French kayak coach was placed in police custody this Tuesday morning as part of an investigation opened by the Rennes public prosecutor's office for alleged rape of a minor. A young kayaker reportedly filed a complaint last September accusing his Breton coach of having raped him five times. The facts would be relatively recent.
Last July, Jean-Yves Prigent was convicted of sexual assault on two young kayakers in his charge. The famous coach received four years of imprisonment, one with an electronic bracelet and three others with probationary suspension, for having touched his former protégés during two successive nights by making them get into his van. The events took place in Cher in March 2023.
A very influential man in the world of kayaking
The 70-year-old leader, who regularly organized training courses with the best hopes of his discipline, spoke of “exiting the road” and “isolated acts” during his trial in July. A plea which would not have convinced the investigators.
Former K1 team world champion (1977), Jean-Yves Prigent, trainer and vice-president of the Rennes club, is a very influential man in the world of kayaking. His wife was notably in charge of the Vaires-sur-Marne site which hosted the canoe-kayak events during the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. He is also the father of Camille Prigent, who finished sixth in K1 this summer at the Olympics. .
