It’s D-Day for the presidential election in the United States. The campaign is over for Democrat Kamala Harris and Republican Donald Trump. Who will win? We invite you to follow the evolution of the vote minute by minute using the infographics below. As soon as a state is won by one or the other candidate, the gauge will increase according to the number of electors in that state.
The objective for the two rivals is to obtain a majority of electors (there are 538 in total). Their number varies from state to state. Thus California has 54, while South Carolina has 9. Small subtlety: Maine (4 electors) and Nebraska (5 electors) allocate their electors according to different legislative constituencies.
So, as the website 270towin.com explains, in Maine “the winner of the statewide popular vote gets two electors, while one elector is awarded to the winner of each district [deux districts en tout, NDLR]“.
In Nebraska there are two statewide electors plus three districts each containing one electorate.
