Hostage situation in Beringen: special units raid and rescue man (Beringen)

A hostage situation ended in the Motstraat in Beringen on Monday late afternoon after a raid by special units. According to the first reports, it concerned two young men in an apartment. One was held by the other.

On Monday around 10 a.m., the local police in Beringen/Ham/Tessenderlo were notified of a possible hostage situation in one of the apartment buildings on Hasseltsesteenweg. A man would hold another man hostage. Several local police teams arrived on the scene and closed off the area.

A crisis cell was set up within the local police Beringen/Ham/Tessenderlo. The special units of the Federal Police were contacted and arrived on the scene, as well as the drone team of the Kempenland police. The special units were able to arrest the 35-year-old suspect around 3:30 p.m.

The victim was also able to be brought to safety. Further investigation will be conducted by the local police Beringen/Ham/Tessenderlo.
