Google digital wallet users will be able to make contactless payments using the Pix system starting this week. The news will be announced at a company event scheduled for this Monday (4), as confirmed by the president of the Central Bank, Roberto Campos Neto.
During an event in London, Campos Neto detailed how this new functionality will work. “Just as you already use your credit cards on Google Wallet, just touching your cell phone to make a payment, you will be able to do this with Pix from next week”, explained the BC president.
This innovation is expected to be just the beginning of a broader expansion of the service. The Central Bank plans to launch Pix by contact for the entire population in February 2025. From that date onwards, all financial institutions accredited by the BC will be required to offer this form of payment through so-called payment initiators.

Meanwhile, other banks are also moving forward with implementing similar solutions. Banco do Brasil, for example, has already made the option available to some account holders in a pilot phase, in partnership with Cielo. Since October 11, selected customers have been able to complete their purchases at authorized establishments in São Paulo and Brasília, simply by bringing their cell phone, which is already logged into the bank's application, closer to the Cielo machine.
The expectation is that, in November, this functionality will be expanded to all Banco do Brasil individual customers who use cell phones with the Android operating system and Near Field Communication (NFC) technology, but, initially, only on Cielo machines.
With these innovations, Brazil continues to position itself at the forefront of adopting new payment technologies, facilitating financial transactions and promoting greater inclusion in the financial system.
