The owners of second homes or from vacant housing must in fact still pay this local tax. If you are concerned, watch your mailbox or your email, because the first tax notices will arrive this Monday, November 4, as noted by the newspaper L'Union.
The website of the Ministry of Economy and Finance specifies that online notices will be sent from November 4 for non-monthly taxpayers and from November 18 for monthly taxpayers. Paper notices will be sent between November 6 and 18 for non-monthly taxpayers and between November 21 and 28 for monthly taxpayers. Please note, if you have not opted for monthly payment, you will have to pay your housing tax before December 15 if you don't pay it online. Otherwise, you can adjust it until December 24.

In an interview given to ParisianSaturday November 2, Catherine Vautrin, the Minister of Partnership with the Territories and Decentralization, put an end to rumors about the return of the housing tax. “There will be no return to housing tax on main residences”she assured while many elected officials are in favor in order to stop the spiraling public deficit.

According to her, we must first allow communities to “better control of their resources”before thinking about “a new tax”. Furthermore, Catherine Vautrin also supports the proposal from the Association of Mayors of France calling for a “citizen contribution to public service”.
