Some Ghent fans turn against Wouter Vrancken: “I understand that they are frustrated”

Things are not going well at KAA Gent. When visiting Beerschot, the Buffaloes performed below par and were actually happy with a point. A group of fans targeted coach Wouter Vrancken by calling for his dismissal. “It was just a few who shouted that, certainly not the entire profession,” the coach himself put into perspective.

“Vrancken outside” and “We want to see football”.

A group of Ghent fans on Sunday evening on a foggy Kiel made no secret of the fact that their favorite team is not in its best period.

After the draw against red lantern Beerschot, the Buffaloes remain behind with 4 out of 12. Just enough for a spot in the top 6. But to maintain or improve that position, Ghent will urgently need to do much better.

“It just wasn’t good enough, simple,” Vrancken honestly reflected afterwards. “First and foremost, I lacked initiative and courage with the ball. There were many spaces, but we stayed in coverage instead of showing initiative. Okay, we have a young team, but you have to dare to stand up.”

“A second thing is that, due to stupidities, we sometimes gave away counters in gift wrapping. However, we knew after the match against Anderlecht that Beerschot is strong in that. Then you make it difficult for yourself.”

I already heard that the supporters group is distancing itself from it.

At the press conference, Vrancken also returned to the chants from the audience.

“That’s something new. The supporters can shout that, because I understand that they are frustrated after this match. There were a few who shouted that, certainly not the entire profession. I already heard that the supporters group is distancing itself from it.”
