FC Utrecht won in the Eredivisie on Sunday without too many problems. The team visited Sparta Rotterdam and expanded to a margin of three in the final phase. On the same Football Sunday, Go Ahead Eagles and PEC Zwolle drew, while NEC and RKC Waalwijk won against FC Groningen and Almere City respectively.

Football Sunday kicked off in Deventer, where Go Ahead Eagles and PEC Zwolle drew in the always heated IJsselderby: 2-2. The visitors took the lead within half an hour through goals from Davy van den Berg and Jamiro Monteiro. Shortly after the break, Oliver Edvardsen brought back the tension by making it 1-2. In the 49th minute, Dylan Vente thought he had scored 1-3, but the VAR disallowed his goal for offside. The final score went to former Ajax player Enric Llansana, who put the final score on the board with a nice shot from distance.

In Nijmegen, number fourteen NEC and number fifteen FC Groningen played against each other. Both teams had success in midweek by progressing in the KNVB Cup and hoped to continue this positively in the competition. The afternoon started well for NEC, when they were awarded a penalty after just over five minutes of play. Koki Ogawa took responsibility and doubled the score within half an hour. Ultimately, NEC reached a monster score of no less than 6-0.

Sparta Rotterdam took on FC Utrecht at Het Kasteel. The unconvincing play of the last few weeks was the reason for the club management to suspend head coach Jeroen Rijsdijk. Maurice Steijn is his replacement. Sparta Rotterdam was able to get straight to work on Sunday, because FC Utrecht is participating in the top part of the Eredivisie this season. FC Utrecht also had a problem-free day on Sunday. Head coach Ron Jans’ team took the lead after fifteen minutes and only really led in the final phase: 1-4.

The last game of this Eredivisie weekend was played in Waalwijk. Hekkensluiter RKC received number seventeen Almere City. Although the Brabant team had not won in competition beforehand, they continued to convert at the expense of Vitesse (3-1). Almere City, on the other hand, was defeated when they visited Quick Boys: 3-0. Hedwiges Maduro’s team had to try to shake off the negative feeling in Waalwijk, but they did not succeed. The former Ajax player and his team were sidelined 2-0 by RKC Waalwijk.
