Anderlecht knows that it is not easy to get points from bottom-of-the-line Beerschot and now KAA Gent has also had to experience that. The Buffaloes are clearly not in their best period. Wouter Vrancken has to think about a solution after a 3 out of 12.
It was in a foggy Kiel that Beerschot received Ghent. Kuyt and Vrancken tinkered with their team compared to the previous competition match, because there is certainly still room for improvement at both clubs. Ghent immediately demanded the ball, but we immediately got the better of the visitors. That 2 out of 9 seemed to have affected confidence: there is sand in the Ghent machine.
That gave Beerschot the opportunity to counter sharply or punish mistakes. The home team mainly tried to do this through Colassin. The ex-RSCA player saw a place ball skim the outside of the post and also put Roef to work. However, as a bottom line there is never room for overconfidence and not on this Sunday evening either.
Surdez’s goal disallowed
When Ghent did produce an excellent combination, the nets immediately shook. Surdez had taken care of the completion on Gudjohnsen’s instructions. However, Gudjohnsen seemed to be offside. The VAR confirmed this a few minutes later, but in the images shown there was still an odor on the offside line drawn. In any case, the Ghent party was canceled.
Vrancken intervened with a double substitution at the break and, among other things, left Gandelman aside. A remarkable move. However, the quality on the field was still nothing to write home about on both sides. Time for a supporter campaign apparently. The use of Bengali fire in a Beerschot area made the visibility even worse and there was still fog on the other side of the field.
The game came to a standstill for a few minutes, then Beerschot actually came up. Verlinden hit the outside of the post from an acute angle. Roef simply played into Reyners’ feet under pressure. The substitute’s finish was not optimal, Roef corrected his own blunder. Ghent did not get further than 0-0 and could have suffered even more damage.
