A political-media story. As part of the promotion of his book “The Carnival of the Ambitious”, Patrick Sébastien was the guest of “On refait la télé”, Saturday November 2 on RTL, speaking about some anecdotes which marked his long television career.
“As long as there was Patrick de Carolis in the public service, we were calm”
During the show, Eric Dussart asked the former host of “Plus grand cabaret du monde” on France 2: “You say that when he was at the Elysée, Nicolas Sarkozy asked the president of France Télévisions at the time for your head Patrick de Carolis ?”. To which the now 70-year-old star replied: “This is known, yes yes. It was Patrick who told me that… Oh yes, as long as there was Patrick de Carolis in the public service, we were at peace”.
Reflecting on his remarks, Eric Dussart sought to know about Nicolas Sarkozy: “Why did he want your head?”. Patrick Sébastien did not hesitate to explain: “Because we were saying things he didn't like. So, there was an old grudge over the fact that I had supported Chirac against Balladur from whom he had taken the skates. There were lots of things and then a sketch that I also did which cost me dearly in retaliation. Where at the time of the campaign, it was hot, I was friends with Chirac. He believed that I was sponsored by Chirac, when not at all”.
At the RTL microphone, the man who is also an imitator and singer added: “I made fun of everyone. I did a sketch where I had Montiel do, he remembers, Sarkozy who is in a room and with photos of Balladur everywhere and who sings “I am only love” with handcuffs . And it didn't work! He called me on Monday morning to insult me and we answered each other. But afterward, we had sex, he was always very, very nice to me Sarko”.

And Patrick Sébastien concludes: “No, but that’s TV, that’s stuff I don’t want to experience anymore. There were so many shenanigans behind it, so many tricks… But it wasn't just my head that he had asked. And he didn't win his case. I can never thank Patrick de Carolis enough who didn’t give in!”.
