In the early afternoon of this Saturday (2), Fluminense announced the TERMINATION of the contract with Marcelo, following the full-back’s disagreement with coach Mano Menezes.
The fight broke out during the 2 x 2 draw with Grêmio, last Friday (1), at Maracanã, for the Brazilian Championship.
In the final minutes, when Flu was still winning 2 x 1, Mano called Marcelo to come in.
Mano and Marcelo, however, had a disagreement, and the coach lightly pushed the player to return to the bench.
Fluminense FC and Marcelo Vieira announce the termination of the contract by mutual agreement between the parties.
Trained in the youth categories, Marcelo returned to Fluminense in 2023, having participated in winning the Campeonato Carioca 2023 titles, the unprecedented Conmebol Libertadores 2023 and Recopa 2024 titles.
The institutional and emotional ties between Fluminense and Marcelo continue to be maintained. The athlete’s name was recently immortalized in the Xerém training center stadium.
Fluminense thanks Marcelo and will continue, as always, to support his success in all his challenges.”
Formed in the youth divisions of Fluminense, Marcelo made his professional debut in 2005 and, after 40 games, transferred the following year to Real Madrid, where he won all possible titles.
In February 2023, the full-back returned to Tricolor das Laranjeiras with a party and the official presentation with more than 30 thousand people at Maracanã.
Marcelo was decisive in winning Rio’s second title over Flamengo, even scoring a goal in the final, and was part of the winning squad of the Libertadores 2023 and Recopa Sul-Americana 2024.
