It's been 14 years since this last happened: a Northern derby between Boulonnais and Valenciennois. We have to go back to October 2010 and a League Cup match, played at the Nungesser stadium, to see an official match between UBSCO and VAFC.
Since then, the two clubs have never found themselves playing in the same championship. It is now possible with the rise of Boulogne-sur-Mer this summer, combined with the descent of Valenciennes from Ligue 2 to the National.
For the return of this “other” Northern derby, some time after a Lens – Lille with an electric epilogue (0-2), the two teams are close to the first places and have been installed in the top 5 for several weeks. While only one point separates them (17 points for Boulogne, 16 for VA), the stakes of the match are already high. We risk there too, as in Bollaert, of having sparks.
