Buenos Aires (EFE).- River Plate drew 0-0 in Buenos Aires against Atlético Mineiro, which won the ticket to the final of the Copa Libertadores thanks to the 3-0 victory obtained a week ago in the first leg in Brazil.

The Brazilian team thus secured its place in the decisive match, which will be played on November 30 at the Monumental Stadium in Buenos Aires, the same venue as the match played this Tuesday.

The match, which began 20 minutes late due to a delay in the arrival of the visiting team, took place in a packed stadium, which welcomed its players with an impressive display of red and white fireworks.

River, based on an offensive approach and suffocating pressure, controlled the ball for much of the first half, although, apart from some overflow by Solari, a couple of shots from long distance and several approaches through set-piece plays, they did not managed to worry the Brazilian goalkeeper.

The clearest chance of the first half came from Deyverson, who was decisive for Atlético Mineiro in the first leg with a double, but wasted a one-on-one against goalkeeper Franco Armani after an error in defense by Matías Kranevitter.

The second half began with a dynamic similar to the first, although those led by Gabriel Milito almost opened the scoring in the third minute thanks to a long-distance shot by Gustavo Scarpa that hit the crossbar and hit practically over the line of the goal. Armani, who then stopped Deyverson’s shot after grabbing the rebound.

River’s growing desperation to score led him to leave more and more spaces in defense, which Mineiro tried to take advantage of through several counterattacks that, however, did not bear fruit.

The entry of the youngsters Claudio Echeverri and Franco Mastantuono with half an hour remaining gave greater verticality to the Millonario, who a few minutes later had the clearest scoring opportunity of the entire match in a one-on-one with the ‘Diablito’, covered by Everson.

The last 20 minutes of the game were a rain of River centers, both from stopped balls and through the projection of Bustos and Acuña, who, however, could not connect with the entered Adam Bareiro, who replaced the Colombian Miguel Borja.

Everson, along with defenders Saravia, Battaglia and Alonso, became a wall that protected the Brazilian team’s goal and allowed it to reach the second Copa Libertadores final in its history, after the one played in 2013, when it became champion by defeating Olympia of Paraguay.

River, four-time champion of the Libertadores, was thus left empty-handed and failed to materialize the great dream of Marcelo Gallardo after his return in August of this year to the bench of the Nuñez club.
