UPDATE: Sources have confirmed to Managing Madrid that Rodri will win the Ballon D’or, and Vinicius Jr will not travel to Paris:
In what’s been a dramatic turn of events, Real Madrid attacker Vinicius Junior will not win the 2024 Ballon D’Or tonight. Club representatives, along with Vinicius and his entourage were set to travel to Paris to receive the award but they have decided not to attend the ceremony as the Brazilian attacker is set to miss on the award. If the report ends up being accurate, Manchester City’s Rodri seems to be the most likely candidate to conquer the award, per those same reports.
Vinicius led Real Madrid to a brilliant LaLiga+Champions League double, so it was understood that he would conquer the award. However, Rodri’s odds of winning the Ballon D’Or gained momentum after Spain became the 2024 UEFA Euro champions with him as an undisputed starter.
The Ballon D’Or ceremony will take place tonight, so stay tuned to see if Vinicius and Real Madrid get snubbed.
