The loss against West Ham turned out to be the final straw for Ten Hag. Man U lost 2-1 on the field to West Ham after a Jarrod Bowen goal in extra time. The verdict was five out of fifteen, resulting in Ten Hag’s dismissal.

Ten Hag has never been able to convince Manchester United fans since his appointment in 2022, despite the two trophies he won (the Carabao Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024). In the 2022-2023 season, Man U finished third, last season they finished a disappointing eighth. After an excellent period at Ajax – with the semi-final in the Champions League as an example – Ten Hag was brought on board with many nobility.

Manchester United also announced that Ruud van Nistelrooy will take over on an interim basis while the board looks for a new trainer.
