The Herons will represent MLS and will kick off the tournament at the Hard Rock Stadium on Sunday, June 15, 2025.

Inter Miami CF has become the penultimate club to secure its place in the FIFA Club World Cup after winning the Supporters’ Shield in Major League (MLS), a title that signifies it as the best team of the regular season in this competition, as highlighted by FIFA, the organizer of the tournament in 2025.

The club featuring Ecuadorian forward Leonardo Campana, Argentine superstar Lionel Messi, and Uruguayan talent Luis Suárez, among other stars from both America and Europe, qualifies as the representative of the United States, the host nation of the World Cup. Inter Miami will also play in the opening match of the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 in its home city, Miami.

In 2026, the first Women’s Club World Cup will take place.

This year, Inter set a historic record for points in a single MLS season, closing its 2024 campaign with 74 points after achieving 22 wins, 8 draws, and only 4 defeats from February to October.

It was FIFA President Gianni Infantino who made the announcement at the conclusion of the match between Inter Miami and New England Revolution, held at Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, where Florida claimed a 6-2 victory.

“We all know that Miami lives and breathes football and that Inter Miami has the backing of all of Florida and other parts of the country thanks to its vibrant style of play,” Infantino said.

“Therefore, I am pleased to announce that as one of the best clubs in the world, Inter has the well-deserved honor of participating in the new Club World Cup as the host club representing the United States. It will undoubtedly be a great celebration of global club football, as the tournament brings together the 32 best clubs on the planet and offers a new opportunity for teams, players, coaches, and fans to share their stories with the world,” he added.

With Inter Miami’s confirmation, 31 of the 32 clubs that will compete in 2025 are already determined; the last spot will be decided in the final of the 2024 Copa Libertadores, set to be played on November 30, 2024, in Buenos Aires, meaning all teams will be known ahead of the World Cup draw scheduled for December.

“The Club World Cup presents itself as the most inclusive and merit-based competition, providing the best clubs from Africa, Asia, Central America, North America, and Oceania the opportunity to compete against the powerhouses of Europe and South America,” FIFA emphasized. (D)
