New floods in South Yvelines, a week after Kirk

After Kirk, the flood. Météo has placed on orange rain-flood alert for the night of this Thursday to Friday, a week after the passage of the storm which flooded several towns in the south of the department. Vigilance extends at least from this Thursday at 4 p.m. until this Friday at 6 a.m.

“Rain is coming from the center of the country towards Île-de-France, sometimes of sustained intensity, particularly in Yvelines where flooding is already observed,” warns the local weather alert bulletin. Which evokes a risk of runoff, flooding and overflowing of waterways “given the particularly sensitive hydrological context”. The bulletin specifies, however, that the episode is “incommensurate” with last week’s storm.

“Since the beginning of the afternoon, we have recorded 10 to 20 mm in the south of Yvelines (south of ), locally 30 mm,” continues the document. Precipitation could be significant throughout the night: “Between midday Thursday and late night Thursday to Friday, accumulations could reach 15 to 30 mm over large areas, locally these values could reach or exceed 50 mm. »

The prefecture reminds that it is strongly recommended to move away from watercourses, low points and basements, or that one should not take a submerged road, “even partially”.

In the south of Yvelines, residents and traders are only recovering from last week’s significant floods. Several municipalities quickly submitted their files to state services to be recognized as being in a state of natural disaster. Their requests must be examined next Tuesday.
