Météo has placed nine departments including the Pyrénées-Atlantiques on orange alert for rain and flooding. In the Basque Country, significant accumulations are expected during the night of October 16 to 17.

Be careful if you are in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques: heavy rain will fall in the west of the department, placed on orange rain and flood alert from midnight on October 17.

The heaviest precipitation is expected on Thursday morning. The prefecture warns of “a particularly rainy front” which “sustainably waters the Basque Country and western Béarn“.
During the morning of Thursday, a rainy front follows late night showers and gradually gains intensity during the day“, warns the prefecture which announces rainy intensities of 20 to 40 mm in a few hours in the Basque Country.
Rain which will then lose intensity, but should persist until the beginning of the night from Thursday to Friday.

In total over the episode, we expect accumulations of around 60 to 80 mm locally 90/100 mm. On the Béarn side, we expect accumulations of around 60 to 70 mm.

Prefecture of Pyrénées-Atlantiques

Significant flooding is possible in areas usually subject to flooding, warns the prefecture, which also warns of the risk of flooding and overflowing of sanitation networks.
Eight other departments, in the south and southwest, are affected by this orange vigilance for the risk of flooding.
