This Sunday, October 13, TF1 has decided to rebroadcast the film “Joker” by Todd Phillips. A wildly successful feature film… This film, released in theaters in 2019, is a psychological drama which explores the origins of the famous Batman antagonist. “Joker” follows Arthur Fleck (played by Joaquin Phoenix), a lonely and mentally unstable man who works as a clown in Gotham City. Mistreated by society and plagued by psychological disorders, Arthur gradually descends into madness. After a series of humiliations and violence suffered, he adopts the identity of the Joker, an anarchic and unpredictable criminal.

The film, centered on themes of alienation and depression, shows how a man broken by society can become a figure of chaos. Joaquin Phoenix was widely praised for his performance, which won him the Academy Award for Best Actor. “Joker” stands out for its dark atmosphere, realistic tone and unique approach to the iconic character.

Moreover, before the broadcast of this feature film, TF1 warned its audience that it could trigger a good dose of anxiety, with a trigger warning. “The permanent anxiety-provoking climate and the realistic scenes of a journey of murderous madness are likely to offend a sensitive audience,” wrote the first channel. A “useful” message, which nevertheless surprised some Internet users.

Even if “Joker” may disturb more than one person, it was still unanimously appreciated by the general public. And suffice to say that Internet users were enthusiastic about the idea of ​​(re)discovering this film which has been so talked about. Subscribers to X, the former Twitter, did not hide their admiration for the film “Joker”, which they described as a “huge masterpiece”. Joaquin Phoenix’s performance in the title role visibly left a strong impression, so much so that many believe his Oscar should be “in diamond”. Some users of the social network did not hesitate to point out that with each viewing, the film continues to upset them, creating an almost immersive experience, where we feel “as if we were in it”.

The sequel to “Joker””, entitled “Joker: Folie à Deux was expected to be a big success of 2024, but the result did not have the desired effect. Despite a cast with Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga, the film failed to launch at the American box office and received strong criticism from spectators. Moreover, after rewatching this first film, the opinions of Internet users are unanimous. Many regret a radical change in tone, calling the second opus a “High School Musical version of Gotham City”, with an excess of unwelcome musical numbers. While the first “Joker” is hailed as an exceptional work, the second is considered mediocre, causing great disappointment.
