It is the shock of the start of the week that awaits spectators this Monday, October 14, 2024 at the King Baudouin stadium (Brussels). For the 4th day of the Nations League, Belgium hosts France and will try to take revenge after the first leg won by the Blues in Lyon (2-0). While the Red Devils met this Sunday in Tubize at the Belgian national training centerDomenico Tedesco spoke about the meeting that awaits his men against Didier Deschamps’ Blues. After the draw in Italy (2-2), [LINK url=”https://sports.orange.fr/football/ligue-des-nations/article/ligue-des-nations-belgique-france-a-guichets-fermes-exclu-CNT000002frXhd.html”]the Belgians are keen to create a feat in a sold-out venue[/LINK]. “We need our supporters. It is not possible to press the France team for ninety minutes. But we must rely on other assets. The depth. Defending our goal well.” he mentioned.
A possible feat for Belgium?
Almost a year to the day (October 16, 2023), Belgium hosted Sweden at Heysel, but the meeting was interrupted following a terrorist attack which cost the lives of two Swedish supporters. The Belgians posed collectively this Sunday with a Swedish flag to commemorate the memory of these two supporters. From now on, the players’ minds are focused on a single goal: to overthrow France. Interesting on certain sequences during the last confrontation against the Blues, the Devils want to experience a historic day as explained by their coach. “I think we can do something historic. As we could have done in Italy where we took a point. We can do it against France. We need to have a fantastic day, recover well and prepare well for that moment.”
A Doku-Koundé duel in perspective?
Tedesco also returned to the system he could put in place and the upcoming duel between Jérémy Doku and Jules Koundé. Considered a “top player” by the Italian-German coach, the French defender will have work to do against the dynamic Manchester City winger. Placed as a piston against Italy, Doku should return to a more usual position. “If anyone can hurt him in duels, it’s Jérémy. He did not miss his previous matches against him (speaking of the face to face with Koundé) […] Anyway, Doku can also play on the right side. He will not play again as a right piston like against Italy.” Tedesco explained to journalists.
