At 2:15 p.m., the identity of the victim was revealed for the first time; it was Dominique Bernard, a French teacher killed while trying to intervene to protect the students. At the same time, it was announced that the terrorist had been arrested.

Everyone was very, very stressed, everyone was crying. When we were able to go out, we were surrounded by the police so I felt safe,” confided one of them.

This Sunday, October 13, 2024, one year to the day after the terrorist attack, a major ceremony will take place on the Place des Héros from 11 a.m. to pay tribute to Dominique Bernard.

From 11 a.m., the sirens of the City of Arras will sound. This will be followed by songs, music, dance, poetry readings, and visual arts. Frédéric Leturque, mayor of Arras, will give a speech. The people of Arrage will be invited to place a rose at the foot of the plaque dedicated to the victims of terrorism.
