Travelers arriving at Moroccan airports, particularly those taking Royal Air Maroc (RAM) flights, are frequently faced with the loss of their luggage upon arrival. This recurring problem aroused the concern of a Moroccan MP.

The problem of lost luggage for many travelers to Moroccan airports was recently raised by a Moroccan MP. The significant increase in lost suitcases, particularly at the Mohammed V international airport in Casablanca on RAM flights, worries Hassan Oumribet, deputy of the Party of Progress and Socialism (PPS).

In a letter addressed to the Moroccan Minister of Transport and Equipment, the opposition MP raised the issue of baggage loss at the kingdom’s airports. “While the traveler usually collects their luggage upon arrival, some wait for long hours, which sometimes turn into several days, or are surprised to learn of their loss,” explains Hassan Oumribet.

Faced with this situation, “the journey becomes a painful ordeal in searching for luggage, and suffering instead of a moment of relaxation and pleasure in meeting up with loved ones and friends, even going so far as to become a curse for travelers who wish to spend their vacation far from the arrival airport,” lamented the MP in his letter cited by the Moroccan media Bladi.

“Improved baggage claim service”

The phenomenon of lost baggage “gives a negative image of the services provided by our airports and their organizational capacities, and contributes to weakening tourist attractiveness, by affecting their competitive capacities”, underlined the MP.

In addition, “the strengthening of links between Moroccan citizens residing abroad and their country of origin, the success of future sports competitions and international events, as well as the achievement of the objectives of major tourism projects depend on the improvement of air transport services at our airports, in particular with regard to reception and the baggage recovery service,” adds the MP.

Faced with this situation, the PPS deputy asks the Minister of Transport and Equipment for explanations on the reasons for the delays and loss of travelers’ luggage in Morocco’s airports. He also urges the implementation of concrete measures and actions to improve the quality of air transport services in the kingdom.
