This 109e edition of the Coupe de France continues to smile on Montlouis who managed a full match with a clear score of 3-0.
Dreux, a team which scores few goals in its championship (four in as many matches), thus suffered the law of the very sharp Montlouisiens. But the visitors were not unworthy, knowing that they were also playing without a few starters.
Montlouisians in good shape
On one side or the other, in the game, these absences were not glaring. The match was enticing with chances on each side. The first alert was from Drouaise, and Goda, the Touraine goalkeeper, had to pull out all the stops on Djenane’s shot (10e). Two minutes later, Kerzazi went on goal and it was at the last minute that the defense snatched the ball from his feet. Montlouis in turn was offensive, Dutournier aimed a sharp shot but Nornagui, the visiting goalkeeper, blocked impeccably (15e). De Jesus in a good position, crushed his shot (20e).
As the minutes passed, the locals, well on their feet, took the upper hand. Rebelo put aside (25e). Three minutes later, more skillfully, on a delivery from the essential Rebelo, Notter Schmit slipped the ball into the back of the net (1-0, 28e). Two other clear chances followed, but Dutournier and De Jesus were put in check against the Drouais goalkeeper (32e40e).
Dreux could have equalized
Even when cornered in defense, the visitors did not hesitate to counter. Two actions full of fools were narrowly repelled by the local defense (38e45e). And Kerzazi all alone from his midfield, at the end lost his duel against the immense Goda, who saved his team from the equalizer (45e).
The Euréliens still had the equalizer at the end of the restart but Archimbaud narrowly went off target. Just as the visitors were recovering, Guedon served by Notter Schmit, nipped in the bud the Drouais hopes of returning to the score (2-0, 58e).
Guedon sounds the death knell for visitors’ hopes
This same Guedon, omnipresent, would sound the death knell four minutes later (3-0, 67e). Delaplanche had seen his shot grazed the post (59e). And that Archimbaud’s majestic free kick found Goda on parade (68e). It was Montlouis who finished the strongest with three chances through Rebelo, Dutournier and Mulumba, but all for nothing.
