At the end of a two-sided match, the Red Devils shared 2-2 against Italy on Thursday in the Nations League. Initially dominated, the Belgians were trailing 2-0 after 24 minutes. But the match changed after Lorenzo Pellegrini was sent off just before half-time, followed by a goal from Maxim De Cuyper in the ensuing action. Coach Domenico Tedesco, however, did not entirely agree with this statement.

“During the five, six minutes before the expulsion, we had changed our approach a little,” Tedesco explained to VTM. “We put more pressure. The red card also came from a situation where we were putting pressure.”

De Cuyper’s goal, after a well-rehearsed action, revived the Belgians. Leandro Trossard equalized on the hour mark. The Devils then did not take advantage of their numerical superiority. “It’s good that we were able to come back. Of course, we would have liked to have scored a third goal. We always want to win,” Tedesco stressed.

Jérémy Doku’s position in the first period raised eyebrows among observers. Placed on the right side, he had difficulty initiating his offensive actions. But Tedesco does not agree with this analysis. “We had a lot of situations in possession of the ball and he was playing as a right winger,” explained the coach, who did not want to point out this placement for the goals conceded. “It wasn’t that. It was about compactness. We wanted to start compact, but we didn’t.”
