“Tatort” star calls it quits – that’s why Manzel is stepping down

This Sunday is the last Franconian “crime scene” with Dagmar Manzel. Here the actress explains why she is leaving her position as Chief Inspector Paula Ringelhahn.

The suicide of a young prisoner leads to a series of deadly events at the “crime scene” this Sunday. This is Chief Inspector Paula Ringelhahn’s tenth and final case. Berlin actress Dagmar Manzel leaves the Franconian “crime scene” at her request.

“It’s a great series and it’s been ten great years,” she told severe: “But my professional goal is the Komische Oper in Berlin, the musical theater.”

The season extends from September to June. “It was often difficult to find filming times,” says Manzel: “We always had to compromise.” Especially since co-investigator Fabian Hinrichs (aka Chief Inspector Felix Voss), as a father, must always take school holiday periods into account.

For the 66-year-old Berliner, there is another reason for her departure: “I am also retired and I want to have more time for myself and my family.”

Career in the East and West

Manzel was born as a teacher’s daughter in the Berlin district of Friedrichshagen and trained as an actress at the Berlin State Drama School.

She starred, among others, in the last DEFA film before the fall of the Berlin Wall, “Coming Out”, and after the fall of the Wall in successful productions such as the satire of Hitler’s diary “Schtonk!” », “Crazy” and “Klemperer – A Life in Germany”, for which she received the prize for “Best Female Series” in 2000.

Her star role: the partner of a serial killer

She is also a permanent member of the Komische Oper Berlin ensemble. One of his breakout roles is as the partner of a serial killer barber in “Sweeny Todd,” a role Manzel first took on in 2004.

Manzel was married twice, including to fellow actor Robert Gallinowski, who died in 2023. She has a daughter from a previous relationship.
