Antwerp wins without trembling against Cercle de Bruges

What is this Antwep capable of? In great form in recent weeks, the Great Old easily took the measure of a mediocre Cercle Brugge this afternoon. De Roeck and his men are only three points behind the leader, Racing Genk. A new title dream at Bosuil?

Antwerp and Cercle de Bruges both had a great week. Last weekend, the Great Old beat their rivals, Beerschot, while Cercle inflicted a severe beating on St. Gallen at European level, which allowed them to temporarily take the lead in the Conference League. Both teams hoped to continue their momentum today at Bosuil.

The Circle KO in a few minutes

Cercle got off to a good start at Bosuil, but made a terrible mistake shortly after the quarter-hour mark. A short back pass from Nunes was intercepted by Kerk, who sent the 1-0 into the ropes via the interior of the post. The Circle willingly allowed itself to be led to the slaughterhouse.

A few minutes later, Janssen put his body to work, delivered a nice assist to Chery and the Dutchman made it 2-0 midway through the first half.

Subsequently, the visitors also had chances. The best was missed by Denkey as half-time approached, the striker unable to get his shot on target from close range. Halfway through, Antwerp seemed to be doing a very good job in the standings.

Antwerp manages

Muslic brought Nunes on at half-time, Diakité took his place. In the first quarter of an hour after the break, the Great Old got by easily, only a weak attempt from Minda was worth mentioning. At the other end of the field, a wild strike from Janssen was off target.

Vincent Janssen didn’t play badly today, but in terms of finishing the Dutchman was disappointing. Twenty minutes from time, he had the 3-0 in his hands but his shot was completely missed from point blank range. Cercle also put their noses in the window a few moments later through Augusto, who forced goalkeeper Lammens into a fine save.

At the end of the match, Antwerp put the icing on the cake. Janssen handed over the ball to Ondrejka, who deliciously curled the ball into the goal (3-0).

Antwerp is getting closer to the top of the standings, while Cercle risks experiencing a long season at the bottom of the ladder.
