Andrés Iniesta hangs up his boots for good. At the age of 40, the Spanish midfielder has decided to end his sporting career, after more than two decades in the profession. The former footballer will hold a farewell event on October 8 in Barcelona to make the news official, as he indicated on his X account.

Born in Fuentealbilla in Albacete on May 11, 1984, Andrés Iniesta Luján, his full name, joined the FC Barcelona training center at the age of 12 after impressing during a youth tournament with Albacete. He played for the Catalan club until 2018 before embarking on a five-year adventure with the Japanese club.

The Meastro leaves the game with an impressive record: 2010 world champion. Winner of the Euro (2008, 2012), four-time winner of the Champions League (2006, 2009, 2011 and 2015), but also nine times La Liga champion . As recently mentioned, the former Barça captain should embrace a coaching career.
