THE MATCH

We do not know where this start of the championship will take the Rémois. But one thing is certain, the quality demonstrated both mentally and in the content suggests that we will have to count on Stade de Reims this season if it continues with these standards. Well back in its championship, the Reims club continued its merry way in Ligue 1 this Sunday, with a trip to the red lantern: Angers. A trap match, considering the large gap to be provided between PSG and Angers as opponents. However, Luka Elsner’s men quickly made their mark on Raymond Kopa’s pitch. With possession close to 60%, it was only natural that the Red and Whites were dangerous.

Cédric Kipré, again starting in the absence of Joseph Okumu, sent a deep pass into the opposing area for Keito Nakamura. Left behind to mark, the Japanese presented himself alone against Yahia Fofana, controlled his chest and delivered a nice cross rebound with his right foot. He thus scored his third goal in three matches. Perfectly started in the game, the Rémois continued to put their foot on the ball and increase their domination in the game, particularly in midfield. But Junya Ito saw his ball fail a few centimeters from the uprights, while Marshall Munetsi missed the target after appearing alone against the Angevin goalkeeper.

Undivided domination for Reims

Missed opportunities which did not affect the appearance of the meeting. Quite the contrary. In the 25th minute, the Rémois combined at the entrance to the area between Yaya Fofana and Oumar Diakité. The Ivorian striker shifted Aurelio Buta, whose pushed-back cross benefited Junya Ito. His strong recovery from close range gave his team the break. At 2-0, Reims kept control of the match and Marshall Munetsi was still very close to adding an additional goal.

If the return from the locker room was a bit less controlled, Reims retained its domination. And in a highlight coinciding with the return of Mamadou Diakhon, Reims was going to take shelter for good. The young Reims struck in his lane before striking. The goalkeeper pushed back the deadline again. But this time, Marshall Munetsi did not miss the offer, on the verge of offside. Naturally, the changes and the lead in the score caused a relaxation. Enough to reduce the gap between Zinedine Ferhat. Insufficient to make the Stade de Reims angry. The Rémois won in style against a team that left them too much space in the heart of the game. A victory which strengthens the Rouge et Blanc in the standings before hosting next Sunday.
