Cheese, jewelry, lingerie… The Saint-Michel fair is back in Nîmes

Each year, there are more than 60 exhibitors offering a wide choice of regional and artisanal products on the Jean-Jaurès aisles.

Formerly known as the “garlic and broom fair”, the Saint-Michel fair made its grand return to the Allées Jean-Jaurès this Sunday, September 29. If the tradition has been modernized, its essence remains unchanged: offering visitors a great opportunity to stroll, discover flavors and enjoy themselves. And this Sunday, there were many of them strolling between Place Jules-Guesde and Rue du Mail, looking for products that smell good from the South and its surroundings.

Many of them are strolling around in search of good products on this last Sunday in September.

“When it falls on a weekend it’s great”

The first obligatory stop for gourmets, the Délices et fromages stand by Sabrina and Zou immediately attracts the nostrils and taste buds with its mature cheeses and charcuterie to die for. The traders, established in the summer in Cap d’ and Savoie from the first snowfall, are regulars at the fair. “When it falls on a weekend like this it’s great. This morning we have quite a few people, the weather is nice, not too hot, it’s ideal”says Zou while cutting a generous piece of Comté cheese. Because when midday comes, cheese lovers gather around their stand, a slice of Comté in one hand, a piece of sausage in the other.

At the Saint-Michel fair you can also find jewelry.

A few steps further, there is a jewelry stand that shines brightly. Émeline, the designer behind MT_bijoux (on Instagram), proudly presents her stainless steel creations. Handmade pieces, especially intended for women, which combine simplicity and elegance. “It’s the first time I’ve participated in the Saint-Michel fair, but we’ve already done the Jeudis de Nîmes”she says with a smile.

Everyone finds their happiness there

Beyond the exhibitors coming from the four corners of the region, the Saint-Michel fair remains a special moment for the people of Nîmes. A Sunday stroll where you come across as many artisanal products as local flavors. Whether you come to buy a bouquet of lavender, taste sausage or treat yourself to a piece of jewelry, there is always something to discover on the Jean-Jaurès aisles on this last Sunday in September.
