Premier League: The Magpies stand up to City

This Saturday noon, Newcastle hosted Manchester City as part of the 6th day of the Premier League. Through a closed match, neither team was able to find the fault to win (1-1).

A great poster for the start of Saturday afternoon. THE Magpies of Newcastle welcomed the Cityzens in certain adversity. In difficulty for a long time, the Mancunian club did not make the difference (1-1).

Closed part?

The match started strong with great commitment from the locals. Consequently, the men of Pep Guardiola were forced to react to the pressing and protect their sides from the start. But, after five minutes, City started to move forward too.

Later, around the quarter hour mark, the players were still fighting the same fight. One on one in midfield, they went from one end of the green rectangle to the other. Kieran Trippier notably attempted an important strike (15th), while the others Magpies insisted on the goal d’Ederson. However, despite their involvement, they did not manage to open the score.

At the half-hour mark, the pressure was still present on the left side of the team. Skyblues. More, Erling Haaland and his teammates were also more present in the local area. The rivalry was therefore essential and in the end, on a sequence in front Nick Pope, Josko Gvardiol legally confirmed his status as a counter-attacker (35th).

Always on the offensive, Magpies worked to equalize. Joelinton was, for example, inspired just before half-time (45+2). But, following several new errors, they let the visitors take advantage of dangerous balls. They were therefore unable to improve their situation immediately.

War declared

When the game resumed, it remained close. Therefore, commitment was still important. And at the 52nd, Jack Grealish was almost dismissed following a foul on Sandro Tonali. The referee nevertheless decided otherwise. Ederson also made a bad outing (56th) and made a mistake on Anthony Gordonwhich ultimately resulted in a penalty in favor of the locals.

In the 58th minute, the score was 1-1 (Gordon). Invigorated, the Magpies continued their efforts and stayed in the opposing area to make the break. City tried to counter this enthusiasm with the entry of Phil Foden (65e).

Which partially worked. The Mancuniens showed a little more danger and regained possession. However, it remained complicated to tip the scales in their favor.

Sean Longstaff failed to overturn the outcome of the match with a cross shot (81st). Returned to the game, Jérémy Doku also tried to change the game using his speed within his side. Bernard Silva also tried his luck in the 90th + 2 on a chest counter and volley, but once again, nothing worked.

So, Newcastle is temporarily 5th in the Premier League. City remains in the lead, but is only two points ahead of Liverpool and Aston Villa.
