A foul smell travels through , residents are investigating: News

A bad smell has been circulating in certain towns in for several days. The residents can't take it anymore, as reported by Le Parisien. An investigation was carried out and a structure is suspected of being responsible for these inconveniences.

“It stinks.” For several days, in certain communes of Yvelines, a bad smell has been circulating which “jumps to the throat”. The inhabitants of the affected municipalities, such as Neauphle-le-Château and Villiers-Saint-Frédéric, can't take it anymore. This smell “sewer”of “slurries” or “spreading”as some explain in The Parisianis a real mystery to the point where a popular investigation has been launched.

The sub-prefecture tried to reassure residents by indicating that “this olfactory nuisance was not dangerous”but this only reinforced their questions. “If the sub-prefecture can say that it is safe, it is because it knows where it comes from”thus underlined a woman from Neauphle-le-Château to the Parisian.

Several waste treatment structures in the viewfinder

The exact origin of this bad smell has not yet been confirmed, but several municipal buildings, such as certain sewage treatment plants or even recycling centers, are suspected by the people of Yvelin. The Villiers-Saint-Frédéric wastewater treatment plant managed by SIARNC is in their sights. The recycling center managed by SEPUR too. Just like various farms in the surrounding area. If nothing allows, at the moment, to formally designate a culprit, serious suspicions are focused on the co-composting platform of the town of Thiverval, managed by SEPUR. Its mission is the treatment of plants and, sometimes, this can give off bad odors.

Without clearing customs, the structure specifies Parisian : “We have had a significant volume of green waste to process in recent weeks, with exceptional very wet weather conditions which may have an impact. We will speed up the processes so that everything is processed by the end of January.”
