Formula 1 | Can Hamilton take Ferrari 'to the next level'?

Former Ferrari engineer Rob Smedley is delighted to see Lewis Hamilton join the Scuderia this year. The Briton welcomes the seven-time world champion's contribution to and beyond, and is eager to see what he does at his new team.

“I'm a big fan of Lewis. I love him, I love what he does for sport and what he does outside of sport.” Smedley told the Red Flags podcast. “I'm very happy that he's going to Ferrari. I think it's a good thing.”

“It's strange for all of us when a driver of this caliber changes teams, after so much success in another team. We get over it quickly. During the first two months of the season, he will be a Ferrari driver and it will be as if he had always been a Ferrari driver.”

And Smedley is pleased that this transfer only brings positive points to Formula 1: “It's a good thing for the sport. There's no negative, no downside. If he can win his eighth championship as a Ferrari driver, it's a fairy tale.”

“Lewis will take the team to the next level to make it a consistent team. Lewis' departure from Mercedes has also paved the way for the arrival of another great talent in the sport. I look forward to it. Kimi Antonelli is a very strong young man. I don't see any disadvantages, only advantages. I'm happy that Lewis did it.
