Daniil Medvedev knocked out in the 2nd round by the qualifier Tien, who will therefore face Moutet

The day (or rather the night) ended with a small earthquake this Thursday in Melbourne. Finalist in three of the last four editions of the Australian Open, Daniil Medvedev (5th in the world) was knocked out in the second round by the young American Learner Tien (121st). Coming from the qualifications, the latter won in five sets (6-3, 7-6, 6-7, 1-6, 7-6).

Medvedev, who had already needed five sets in the first round to get rid of the modest Thai Kasidit Samrej (418th), had not been eliminated at such an early stage of a Grand Slam tournament since his defeat upon entry into competing at Roland-Garros in 2018.

To everyone's surprise, it is Learner Tien who will present himself on the road to Corentin Moutet, Saturday, for a place in the round of 16. It will be necessary to warn the young American that he risks spending a good amount of time on the court.
